I was playing with my rats on Monday and noticed that TB looked a little... scruffy on her right side. I thought, at first, that she simply had mussed up fur. But upon further investigation, it turns out that it was a rather large lump on her cheek near her ear.
I took her to the vet on Wednesday. She was a very good girl for the nurse, but not so much for the vet. The vet had to put her to sleep in order to do what she needed to do without having to fight TB.
Turns out the lump was an abscess (versus a possible tumor, which I'm glad of). The vet drained and flushed it out and gave me two different medications to give her via syringe.
The thing is... TB hates her medication.
My hands are scratched to hell from trying to hold her still to squirt the medication in her mouth. This morning was a rather large failed attempt. I had to get creative. I tried mixing it with applesauce, but she flung it everywhere. So I squirted some on a tiny piece of bread and balled it up. She ate half of it... I suppose that'll work... for now.
I have to give her one med twice a day for ten days, and the other, five syringes, one every 48 hours. Today is only day 3. Ugh...

Try it with some peanut butter and crackers, split it up some and give her one bit that is just peanut butter then some with her medication. Rat's love peanut butter. When Princess was sprayed I had to give her pain pill once a day for 4 day. She was pretty good about it and tried very hard to take it. She only had to take the pills for 4 days. First night a used a peace of a Tuna sandwich, then I used just bread.

That rat, maybe the first one just didn't heal all the way. It could be the same one. I'll be thinking about her. She will be fine.

I thought the same thing, actually...
I read up on abscesses, and how I can leave it be and it'll eventually open and drain itself. I've bought some peroxide to help clean it up when it happens.
She's killing me, I swear. *sighs*

yeapers PETs can't live with them can't live without them. I think she will be fine. Corey and I only had to take Frick and Frack to the vets to have their teeth clipped, the vet showed my dad how to do it. Just took a small pair of wire cutters. Last night Princess spent the night barking at something (I think a mouse behind the wall) in the bathroom. She barks like it some big baddie that going to get her and me. She keep me save I feel with her barking sometime, if anyone was trying to get in here she would scare them off. LOL She hates this place as much as I do.
